Mangrove Finch by Jono More

One of the lucky mangrove finches (Camarhynchus heliobates) to be captively reared and released back into the wild over the 2016 breeding season. This species is CRITICALLY ENDANGERED due to introduced rats and the philornis fly whose larvae parasitises and kills the finch’s chicks. Until a solution to Galapagos’ philornis fly problem is found, human involvement in this finch’s reproduction is necessary to prevent its extinction.
