The Galapagos short-eared owl (Asio flammeus galapagoensis) is one of the few native species in the islands to actually benefit from introduced rats and mice. The presence of birds of prey such as owls and hawks makes rodent control challenging in the islands as the toxins most suitable for killing rodents will also poison any birds which feed on them.
